The Biggest Post-College Purchases You’ll Need To Make

You’ve got your degree, accepted a new full-time job, and now you’re moving half-way across the country. Congrats! You’re entering an exciting new era of life. Chances are you’ll be hunting for apartments and will be picking out furniture soon. But, don’t get caught off guard like I did. There are so many things you need to purchase after college that you don’t realize or don’t think about.

That’s why I’m sharing some of the biggest post-college purchases that you’ll need to consider and start preparing for. Many of these items you might not have thought of because you already have them. But when you think about it, these items may be damaged or mix-matched. Starting your post-college life you’ll want to create a home where you feel comfortable and welcome, something you can call yours. Along with some inspiring photos I’ve also included some links to my favorite products!

Pots & Pans.

You either shared with a roommate or you have mix-matched pots and pans that are scratched up and ready to be thrown out. Take this time after college to invest in some nice kitchenware, something you’ll really appreciate. I’ve been eying this set of pots and pans for a while now.

A Dining Set.

Now that you’re moving into a grown-up place you’ll want to invite guests over and have a place for everyone to sit down and eat. Don’t forget to add a dining set on your list! A few of your favorite chairs and a sturdy table will make your dining area feel cozy.

An Actual Vacuum.

You probably had a small handheld or mini-vacuum in college. But now that you’ll be moving into your own apartment (or house) you’ll need a hefty vacuum to really keep the place clean. I invested in a Dyson, one of my favorite vacuum brands. These vacuums are such good quality that they last for years.

A Bed or Bed Frame.

In college, you’re usually stuck with a twin mattress and even if you do get to size up to a larger mattress you don’t get the pleasure of having a super nice fancy bed frame. This item can also be a bit more expensive than you originally thought, so make sure to plan. If you’re in the market and looking for a new bed you can check out this super comfy (and affordable) mattress from Casper. Plus, the bed frame below is from west elm!

Dresser & Nightstands.

Along with a bed frame, you’re also going to want to upgrade the rest of your bedroom furniture. Chances are your current furniture is either mix-matched or you have none at all. Having a well-furnished bedroom will really make you feel like you’re adulting full-time. Plus, having a matching end table and dresser is lovely!

A Desk.

If you survived college then you’ll understand the importance of a good desk. Make sure that you’re new living space not only has room for a desk but that your desk itself is something you can appreciate and admire. My desk is one of the most common places you’ll find me within my apartment, along with my comfy couch!

Comfy Couch.

Throw out that old lumpy stained sofa and get yourself a comfy couch! Adding a nice sofa to your living space can transform your apartment. Trust me, you don’t want to be without a couch, I spent 6 weeks without one and it was rough!
